I got into LED ZEPPELIN quite a while ago and was (back in the day) a Zeppelin nut, much to the chagrin of some around me. John Bonham’s death hit me hard. I missed Jason Bonham’s band last time they came to Adelaide but was determined to go this time. A few weeks ago, a man I’ve known for many decades asked me how I felt about Jason Bonham doing the Zeppelin thing. My reply was, ‘If ANYONE ON EARTH was entitled to do it, it was him’. So off I went to the gig, fortunate enough (blessed in fact) to have scored a photo pass. I was expecting it to be good, what I was not prepared for was for it to be THAT GOOD. Holy crap. It was f****** amazing. The quality of musos he had with him (me having done no research, I wanted to go in ‘blind’) was off the chart.
As it was the 50th anniversary of ‘Physical Graffiti’, the album, the entire double album was played, along with a couple of extras. It was amazing hearing all those songs played live, in fact the surprising songs were the ones that weren’t the biggies as it were. Everybody would immediately mention Kashmir as the big one and then some others, fair enough, but hearing songs like Ten Years Gone, and Black Country Woman really stirred up deep memories and proved a bit of a highlight for me. Of course Kashmir went down like a house on fire, as you would expect. One gig left in Australia, jeez, fly to Melbourne to catch it if you missed it in your city.
One of the best gigs I’ve seen for a few years.
