Okay, so it’s the mid ’80s. What a time to be alive. The sun is shining, the birds are singing. You’re cruising in your dad’s old Corvette down US-1 in the Florida Keys. The top is down, your girl is there with you, damn she looks good. The car stereo is blasting the latest NIGHT RANGER album. You remember the first time you heard them, it was ‘Don’t Tell Me You Love Me’ from their classic first album. Your girl likes them too, but she came on board later, when she saw them on ‘Solid Gold’, lol.
Then you wake up. You’re not in the Corvette. You’re not in Florida. You DO have the latest NIGHT RANGER album playing, but it’s 2021, it just SEEMS like it’s the 80s. The familiar NIGHT RANGER elements are there, the rockers, the ballads, the epic harmonies, the ripping lead breaks, Brad Gillis, Jack Blades, Kelly Keagy etc.
There is no ‘Sister Christian’ (their biggest) or ‘Goodbye’ (their best) on this album, but it is pretty much what you’d expect from this band. It really does take you back to THAT time. It’s amazing that some of these bands can take you back so effortlessly, bringing back the sights, the sounds, maybe even the smells of the ’80s. Put this album on and you will be taken back, that’s for sure.
Some things don’t change much. Some things don’t need to.
Verdict – Solid album of ’80s fare. Travel 88 m.p.h. with this baby. Summer is coming, you know what to do.
Fave / feature tracks – ‘Breakout’, ‘Tomorrow’.
For fans of- 80s style arena rock.
Release date – OUT NOW.
