BE’LAKOR ‘Coherence’ Tour – Adelaide gig review.

Last night was a great night at Lion Arts Factory. There was an early start to a night full of METAL. On a night with heavy competition for the Metal dollar in Adelaide, a healthy crowd showed up and was entertained all evening.
Lion Arts Factory was the perfect place for a show such as this.

Adelaide’s own DYSSIDIA kicked the proceedings off in a way that only they can. They are their own beast and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a band such as them. There’s Progressive Metal and there’s Progressive Metal if you know what I mean. Anyone who’s seen them will KNOW that they’ve seen them.
Next up, ANDY GILLION. Well, what can I say? Amazing. A set of instrumentals that if you played guitar, would either have you thinking of driving yourself harder, or giving up completely. A bit of shredding here and there, very tastefully done and a fantastic sense of melody driving it along. I bought the album on sale and had a chat to the man after. Very impressed with what I saw. See him while he is here for sure.
ORPHEUS OMEGA came on and tore the place apart next. Car trouble saw the band in doubt as to whether they would make it here at all, but a rescue took place and they made it. We’re glad they did. They are a high energy act, visually and musically, whipping the crowd up. They sounded great, unfortunately I spent most of their set outside, due to the over use of a smoke machine that made it difficult to breathe. It cleared towards the end of the set and I was able to return and see the rest of the set, (in time for the wall of death and ensuing circle pit) which looked like it had sounded from outside. They always impress and this was no exception.
BE’LAKOR. I’m sadly late to the party with BE’LAKOR, only discovering them reasonably recently. What a tragedy on my part. I was blown away by what I saw. This is a band that have their own sound and drive it along in a sometimes brooding, but always punishing fashion. They have a more ‘relaxed’ visual approach that belies the music on show. All honed at their craft, and all delivering well. They played a few tracks off the most recent album as well as obvious fan favourites (going by the crowd reaction) from previous albums. They left the crowd wanting more.

Adelaide was the first date of the tour. Catch them on ensuing dates. This is a night not to be missed by any fan of the genre. It is world class.
Cheers.
