SABATON are releasing their ‘Tour To End All Tours’ concert film this Friday, October 11th. Filmed in 2023 in Amsterdam, this is a very impressive spectacle. 16,000 people packed in, and SABATON doing what they do, that is, the story of war and conflict told through Metal, with a stage set and pyros to match. Possibly the most metal drum riser ever to grace a stage gives drummer, Hannes Van Dahl, quite the view from the back. It is a ‘stage prop in the shape of a tank’ (in case Customs read this, I’ve learned you should never declare to customs as a tank, rather as a stage prop in the shape of a tank).
Rhythm section holds the music together like glue. Guitar work is top notch and tasteful, both leads sharing duties and using the stage well, in fact the whole band shows they are experts as using and filling the stage. The band is clearly enjoying themselves immensely, in fact you don’t see the smile leave bassist Pär Sundström’s face the entire time. The big crowd is obviously having a grand time also.
The songs are embellished visually with a few guests here and there, drummers and such, and soldiers using flamethrowers at the ‘appropriate’ times.
It is well filmed, not cut too quickly which gives you a chance to at least see what is going on properly. Too many concert films these days are chopped way too fast.
Overall it is quite the spectacle. I won’t tell you too much, grab a ticket and I will see you at the screening.
