Possibly the earliest I’ve got this done. 2025 has given way to 2026, so that means a list like this mysteriously appears. In compiling this list I’ve noticed one thing, and that is there is a bit of a genre shift this year, not in my taste, just what I feel has been complete albums. This is my list, not to interfere with YOUR list, just what I feel were the better albums of 2025. I could gone on but you have to draw the line somewhere.
Album of the year - 2025
KING WITCH – ‘III’
This band from Scotland have blown me away with this album. In my eyes (and ears) it is a worthy number 1 on my list for 2025. Doom, magnificently done, heavy, brooding at times, and THAT voice, oh my God, that voice. Suits everything so perfectly. The songs are awesome, this album keeps on giving. Well done, KING WITCH. Check this album out if you haven’t already.
What can one say about AMORPHIS? Every now and then a band just f***ing nails it. You know the deal, they release an album that makes even casual listeners stop and say, ‘Hang on, what?’ and then they delve deeper. Maybe you will be the next one. Check this album out.
Swedish Metal Lords, AMBUSH, take me back with this one. A traditional style brought up to speed for today. Taking inspiration from the great ones of the 80s and coming at you, HARD. Great songs done well. Check it out. Click the links below because they might be hard to find otherwise.
Adelaide’s NAKATOMI PLAZA explode out of the gates with a monstrous debut album. Check it out if you haven’t already. The Power Trio is alive and well. Get on the bus, pal!
This group of ladies based in Sweden released a punishing album full of delightful little ditties based on various female serial killers. Check it out, but you have been warned.
Heading over to Germany for this one. This one stood out from the crowd at the time of release and proves to be a memorable slab of Metal that I reach for again and again. Really well done album.
THE HALO EFFECT managed to one-up themselves and release an album even better than their debut. Didn’t think they could, did you? Well they did. Check it out,
A band from Finland. There’s Finland, AGAIN. This is one where you see the songs titles and you know exactly where you’ve landed. You give it a listen. It’s Power Metal, it’s outrageous, it’s over the top, it’s fun, and everything just works. Horns, and swords, UP.
PRIMAL FEAR are back with a ripper. New guitarist, Thalia, who you may recognise, has brought some added energy and this album explodes out of the gates. ‘I Am The Primal Fear’, quite possibly the song of the year. Enjoy.
You know me, I’m a sucker for melody. This French band released an excellent album. I’m putting this here for you to check out the videos below and go from there.
